TREE OF LIFE

Tree of Life, 2009

The plywood and MDF constituting this sculpture were recuperated from an exhibition at a museum of contemporary art in Los Angeles. These materials were previously components of display cases, which upon the close of the show, were destined for the waste bin. They will now be used as the base for Mexican Folklore Trees of Life created by families participating in the Parents and Children Together with Art program at Free Arts for Abused Children.

Free Arts for Abused Children is a nonprofit organization that integrates the healing and therapeutic power of the arts into the lives of children and youth who have been abused, are homeless or at-risk of falling through the cracks of the system, as well as their families in need.
